After many years working as a personal trainer I've now been lucky enough to venture into the wonderful world of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability). This has led me to work with some incredible and inspirational young people with a range of different needs including ASD, ADHD, PDA, hypermobility, sensory processing difficulties, processing delay, Dyspraxia, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and Tourette Syndrome.
I now have three years experience working with children and young people with SEN. I believe that everyone should have access to exercise, but gyms, fitness classes and even PE lessons can be overstimulating and can place too much demand on the young person. I work with children and young people in an environment that suits their needs.
Taking a child-led approach to personal training and ensuring sessions are both fun and engaging has meant we've had some amazing results, with my sessions now being written into a young person's EHCP. I think that it is important to understand the person that you are working with and tailor the session to meet both their needs and their interests.
I offer one-to-one and small group sessions for children and/or young people. These can either be at home or in a local park and we will choose the location depending on the needs of the child. I also have experience of working in and with schools to best support the young person's needs.
I have completed the following training to further my knowledge:
I also have an Enhanced DBS, details of which can be made available on request.
